Chinuch Hora'ah of the Day:
Shalom bayis is one of the most lofty and important ideals, especially when the couple has been blessed with children. It is understandable how important it is for children to grow up in a home where there is peace, and to grow up in a complete household, a home where there is both a father and a mother.
So it is obvious, as well, that if it is necessary to compromise on important matters – and certainly when we are speaking about compromising only on comfort – this should be done with desire and eagerness in order to create shalom bayis, especially since this is for the good of the children.
In addition, one should make the compromise besimchah and wholeheartedly, and not with a feeling that what one is doing is a great self-sacrifice, under pressure, and so forth. On the contrary, the feeling should be that they are doing [yet] another good thing for the home and for the welfare of the children, in addition to its being for the welfare of the parents themselves...
